Garrett Osumah, Founder & Executive Director
Garrett Osumah serves as Executive Director and oversees all aspects of the organization, including the development of youth programs, fundraising, corporate partnerships, and work with donors, volunteers and board members. Garrett credits the guidance and mentoring received through his own involvement in youth athletics for his own personal development which sparked his passion for working with at risk youth. Since founding Athletes Without Borders in 2012, Garrett has worked tirelessly to create programs that empower youth to use athletics as a vehicle to reach their full potential. Garrett has led Marketing and Branding efforts in the past for EMC and TD Bank Financial Group. In 2009, Garrett founded the sports management company Precision Sports Management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College. He also holds an MBA in Strategic Marketing and International Finance From Northeastern University and a Masters in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University.
Francois Fils-Aime, Marketing
Francois Fils-Aime is an accomplished marketer with over two decades of experience managing marketing and promotional events in Massachusetts and throughout the Northeast. Francois oversees Marketing initiatives for Athletes Without Borders, he is responsible for all event coordination and community outreach initiatives. Francois is also an avid sports enthusiast who holds a first degree black belt in karate. In 2002, Francois co-founded Next Level Entertainment, an entertainment and promotional company. Since 2009, Francois serves as the Director of the METCO program for the Marblehead Public School District. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
MELISSA WASHINGTON, COMMUNICATIONS
Melissa Washington is a communications professional with a noteworthy background in athletics. Melissa graduated from Wake Forest University in 2007, receiving a B.A. degree in Communications. While at Wake Forest, Melissa played on the Women’s Basketball team funding her education through a full athletic scholarship. Upon graduating, Melissa spent six years playing professional basketball in the European league, playing in countries such as France, Spain, Italy, and Romania. After retiring from the professional sport, Melissa obtained a position as a Communication Specialist at the Association for Talent Development, while attending graduate school at the University of Maryland, graduating in August 2016. Today, Melissa serves as the Manager of Communications at the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and is a Tight-End for the D.C. Divas professional women’s football team. Melissa’s expertise is in social media campaigning, media relations, event planning, and website management. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys being a foodie and traveling.
Alix Holder has a distinguished background in technology and entrepreneurship. He has led web and mobile product development for a number of organizations including America Online, EMC, QuantiaMD and SimpleTuition. He is also an active member of the entrepreneurial community serving as an advisor and board member to several commercial and non-profit organizations. He graduated with honors from Northeastern University, holding a dual bachelor of science degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing.
Jennifer Hawkins, a native of Austin, TX, has over a decade of experience in policy development, program outreach, and digital media. Over the past several years, she has primarily focused her efforts on leveraging the latest web technologies to engage and empower underserved communities. She has worked at The White House, the Pentagon, and several Federal government agencies doing community outreach and public affairs work. Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in Economics from Harvard University. She then went on to receive her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her Master’s in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University. Jennifer is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her passion is working with youth using sports as a vehicle for education, mentorship, and support.
Justin Stewart, a native of Columbus, Ohio, graduated from Morehouse College, Cum Laude, in 2002. In 2007, he received a J.D. degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University. While attending Morehouse College he was a defensive linebacker on the Maroon Tiger football team where he earned a varsity letter in all 4 seasons he participated. In 2008, he served as the Assistant Director of Compliance for Kennesaw State University. While in this role, Mr. Stewart monitored 17 varsity sports, served as the Title IX Coordinator and educated student-athletes, boosters and department staff on changing NCAA legislation. In 2011 he accepted a position as the Director of NCAA Compliance at NC State University. During his tenure at NC State, Mr. Stewart assisted in monitoring the recruiting activities and practice and playing seasons for over 600 student-athletes participating in 23 varsity sports. Currently, Attorney Stewart resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He serves as the Managing Partner of Stewart & Associates.
Now living in the Washington, DC area Kristin is a Queens, NY native with Trinidadian-American roots. Kristin attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA where she studied History with a concentration in American Studies. In 2008 she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, initiated through the Illustrious Iota chapter. Currently working as a financial account specialist for Donnelley Financial Solutions, she prepares SEC filings for publicly traded client corporations and I.P.O.’s. In her free time she enjoys the arts as well as traveling.
S’Neta A. Benefield is committed to spending her professional career working for the betterment of communities by educating individual stakeholders. She believes that education and mentor-ship are pivotal in ensuring youth recognize and capture their mountainous potential. This past year, S’Neta aligned her skills in program coordination and management with a non-partisan education organization, working to create unique opportunities that encourage students to explore and develop their own personal leadership potential. She has both implemented and developed Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse curricula for training of the nation’s emergency first-responders. Additionally, S’Neta has successfully written grants in excess of $450,000 while managing equal budgets and cooperative agreements. S’Neta earned a Bachelor’s degree concentrated in Asian Studies, Communication, & Japanese from Ball State University.
